What started as a small local diner selling ¢5 cent hamburgers in 1937, Town Topic Hamburgers is now an iconic piece of Kansas City history and a must-try restaurant. The small white diner is located on 2442 1/2 Broadway in downtown Kansas City and still has that old, classic diner feel. When you walk in, you feel like your inside an old fashioned movie. After looking at the wide ranged menu across the top of the wall, you walk up to take your order. There are two counters with a total of probably 10 swirly stools, so you may have to wait a couple minutes before you can sit down. In order to keep the small diner running smoothly, it is commonly known to the customers that you walk in, order, sit down, eat fast, and leave. With how busy the diner gets around lunch time, there is no time for talking while you eat. Not only is it an awesome atmosphere, their burgers taste incredible.

This week, I decided to take a special trip downtown to eat at my favorite Kansas City burger restaurant. After walking past the classic Town Topic Hamburgers sign, I walk into the diner, take a quick glance at the menu, and order. I go with the double cheeseburger topped with their signature grilled onions and pickles, and I of course add bacon to it. I also get a side of tater tots and a chocolate milkshake. Because it was their busiest time of day, we have to stand and wait along one of the counters for our food. After watching them grill my burger right in front of me for a couple minutes, my food is ready and I dig in. After inhaling the amazing tasting burger, it immediately reminds me why this is such a beloved little diner in Kansas City. Town Topic is one of my favorite burger places around and is a part of Kansas City History. I recommend this diner to everyone and I’m not sure how anyone that lives in Kansas City could not have come across this classic little diner yet.
